A
Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State on Wednesday sentenced a
19-year-old youth, Lucky Gabriel, to three years imprisonment for
conspiracy and theft.
The Presiding Officer, Mr. Vincent Gwehemba, sentenced Gabriel, who pleaded guilty to stealing a brand of Bajaj motorcycle.
Gwehemba refused to give the convict an
option of fine, saying that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to
youths, “who have chosen the life of crime, instead of facing their
studies.”
He also ordered that one Cornelius
Ishaku, 25, who pleaded not guilty to the same offence, be remanded in
prison custody. Gwehemba adjourned hearing in the case to October 28,
2013.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Corporal Samuel
Okoro, had told the court that Ishaku and Gabriel committed the
offences on October 7, 2013 at Aso “C” Mararaba in Nasarawa State.
Okoro said that the two broke into the
house of Mr. Abuh Isaac and stole a motorcycle valued at N110, 000 but
were later arrested with the said motorcycle.
